When the car in question is leading a revolution in lighting technology; when it's a car whose taillights, stop lights, and backup lights are on the cutting edge of a new way of lighting our paths. A technology new to standard exterior auto lighting employs light-emitting diodes. As the technology is being developed, LEDs are economically feasible in the red and amber hues required at the rear while white forward lighting is still being developed and remains prohibitively expensive.
